Our Sensory Show will be on exhibit through June. Please come by anytime. We have volunteer gallery sitters on site to help you.
To become a volunteer please inquire within. We are always looking to fill weekly shifts and need your contribution and talents.
Onsite we have over 30 hand-drawn designs ready for printing, plus loads of donated clothing to choose from or bring your own favorite article of clothing to print on. Support our artists while learning a new skill and walk away with something unique and handmade by one of our artists with disabilities. $10 each print.
With Poor Little Rich Girl and Serendipity thrift Shop both closing their doors to the Union Square neighborhood, we understand the importance of our customers and how challenging it can be to stay afloat. We hope you will help us thrive and strive to stay in this beloved square by supporting the space, our artists and the two nonprofits that we represent.

OUR MISSION
Creative Union is the synergistic partnership of two social service organizations, Walnut
Street Center and Outside the Lines Studio. We provide dynamic artistic
environments for people with disabilities to engage their creativity and civic
inclinations. We exist to make community collaboration accessible to more
artists both with and without disabilities. We rely on volunteer gallery
sitters to keep our doors open and engage the Somerville community, one of
the largest artist communities in the country.
Visitors to the young, progressive neighborhood of Union Square Somerville view our
gallery windows and are intrigued by the vivid and uncontrived quality of
Outsider Art. Many are drawn into our space and feel inspired to meet the
artists and participate in our creative programming. If you would like to
volunteer please contact us today.
Through our two state-funded services, we employ fifteen artists to mentor creative individuals with developmental disabilities and work with a pool of 10-20 volunteers who sign up for one or more 3 hour weekly or bi-weekly shifts, seasonally or annually. We
provide a network of access for all kinds of artists and modes of creativity,
drawing the interest of the community with collaborative art-making workshops,
interactive art installations, multi-media performance events, film screenings,
live music, gallery talks, presentations, and open studio sessions.
We have an art mentorship program that fosters relationships between artists with and without disabilities, workshops led by guest artists that culminate in public events, a rotating gallery program, and collaborative multi-media installations and performances that project the raw and uninhibited imaginations of Outsider Artists.
